Are myths nothing more than stories inherited from the past? What if they were never meant to be interpreted or explained? For ancient and traditional cultures alike, myth is not a story about reality—it is reality. The Holy People of the Navajo, the Kachinas of the Hopi, the Dreaming of Aboriginal Australia, and the spirits of Haitian Vodou: these are more than symbols—they are living presences.
Changes in human cognition and culture led us to experience myth only from the outside, no longer able to enter it as a dimension of reality. As a result, the wisdom of the ages became hidden behind a door we no longer even know exists. We analyze myths, interpret them, or even dismiss them, unaware of the treasures they may conceal.
