ISM Presents Dr.Fujio Mandeville: The Cosmic Mother and the Cave of Creation: The Lenca Myth of the Creation of Humanity

This presentation explores the ancient creation myth of the Lenca people and demonstrates how the divine mother calls upon the creatures of the jungle to assist her in the formation of humanity, after which, her love for her work compels her to sacrifice herself for all things. This story ultimately teaches us to have an all-inclusive love and respect for Nature through the divine.

A particular Lenca myth tells how the Mother Goddess, Ish-Managual created the Lenca people, who predated the Maya and occupied most of Central America. This myth passed down orally to Leonel Chevez, described in his book Ti Manauelike: The Lenca Taulepa Chief, focuses on the mother goddess whose mission was to leave the heavens and come down to Managuara (the land of the Lenca) to create the first humans and then return to the heavens once she had accomplished her task.
