Reining in the Year of the Fire Horse with a Mythological Herd

Feb 9, 2026 - Feb 23, 2026

About

2026 is the year of the Fire Horse, an image that invokes power, grace, and beauty. It also symbolizes forward motion and transformation. The horse has been in the collective psyche for millennia, carrying humans forward into new eras. We have been communicating, dreaming about, and interacting with these spirited animals throughout time as reflected in our stories, art, and language. Many continue to feel the power and connection with the horse at a deep level, much as our ancestors did before us. At a time when we no longer rely on horses to move us physically in the world, the mythological herd symbolizes the possibility of a shifting perspective, re-storying valuable images for transformation and consciousness. In this 3-week course, we will explore stories of the mythological herd to help rediscover a sense of awe in our lives, and the world around us. The myths we will discuss include the Upanishad's sacrificial horse meditation, a Lipan Apache Creation Story, the Greek Myth of Persephone's journey to and from the underworld via four fiery stallions, and Pegasus, the flying stallion's battle with the fire breathing chimera. An in-depth psychological, comparative mythological approach and lived experience is used to amplify the symbolic meanings in the stories surrounding the mythical horse. Heather chooses not to record these sessions as the horse has the power to move emotion in an intimate setting which should be witnessed with presence. By creating space for this Mythological Herd, we create room to roam in ancient fields together and discuss the power of the horse to transform our lives and touch our souls. Let this year of the Fire Horse spark imagination and new beginnings as we gallop into 2026 together with a mythological herd.
